Being a Photographer without a studio means you have to know some great places to conduct your sessions. Here in the Orlando area, there are so many choices I sometimes can't remember them all. Yet, I always seem to go to a select few spots over and over again. Mostly because these locations are not far from me or my clients, but also because they are beautiful and make for stunning shots. Additionally, many people just can't think of a place that would work for photos and come to me for suggestions. What they don't realize is that the right location doesn't have to offer the most beautiful landscape or be unique, it can really be anywhere. In fact, I have photographed a few families in their own backyard and no one would even know but them.
Within this post we are going to go over my go-to locations as well as places I have used once or twice and would love to use more. If you are reading this looking for ideas on locations and are booking a session with me, by all means tell me which one you like the best, and we will go there. However, keep in mind I am always scouting new locations to use, so some may not be featured just yet.
Kraft Azalea Park - Winter Park, FL (Dog Friendly)
This place is amazing. With the Greek/Roman column thing, (yeah I don't know what it's called) to the cypress trees and azalea bushes, this park offers an abundance of places to get some great shots.
Dickson Azalea & Langford Park - Orlando, FL (Dog Friendly)
These two parks are across the street from each other off Central Blvd., near downtown Orlando. Both offer an array of options for photos. Dickson Alzalea is more of a neighborhood strolling park and does not have an area to park so it's best to use Langford Park's parking area. When shooting at these parks I always start off with Dickson and move over to Langford. Dickson has wooden bridges, rock walls, stairs, a tons of greenery, and the Washington Street Bridge. Oh and let's not forget the cool tree that hangs near ground at the start of the park on Central and Rosearden Dr. Langford Park, has two playgrounds which is great when shooting small kids. One playground is for toddlers while there is another is more for ages 5-10. Additionally, there are pavilions, a suspension bridge, a stream, and plenty of open green space for stunning photos.
Lake Eola - Downtown, Orlando, FL (Dog Friendly)
Lake Eola is a landmark in Downtown Orlando. Very few who live here do not know about this beautiful park. In recent years many renovations have happened at Lake Eola which has made it a favorite among local photographers. The benefit of using Lake Eola is that it is very large, which allows multiple photographers to be there at the same time without stepping on each others toes. The best time to use this spot is definitely Sunset or Sunrise, as during mid-day the sun is not only too harsh but it gets very warm outside making standing out there longer than 20 minutes pretty unbearable. Another great aspect of shooting at Sunrise/Sunset, is the way the light reflects and plays with the city buildings surrounding the area which provides depth to the scene and if a photographer wants, great Bokeh. If your not familiar with bokeh I will tell you to look it up because I am so bad at explaining it.
Lake Lilly - Maitland, FL (Dog Friendly)
Lake Lilly, is a small park near the Maitland/Winter Park city borders. With a lake at it's center it offers up so great spots to photograph your subject. Additionally this park like all the other parks previously mentioned are dog friendly. However, I always seem to see more dogs at this park than any other. So if you're not a fan of dogs it may be harder to avoid them here.
Gemini Springs - DeBary, FL
Gemini Springs is a beautiful park right off 17-92 in DeBary, FL. Although swimming is no longer allowed at these springs, they do offer a vast amount of picnic spots, pavilion rentals, fishing, hiking/biking trails, and a playground. I often see other photographers at this park, but it's never too packed. There is always a area you can use that has great light and scenery.
The Rest - Central FL, From New Smyrna All the Way to Kissimmee and many places in between.
Lighthouse Point Park - New Smyrna (Dog Friendly)
My Secret Tree Location - Somewhere in Central, FL
Historic Sanford, Sanford, FL
Jetty Park, Titusville, FL
Florida Theme Parks & Resorts - Central, FL
Park Avenue/Rollins College area - Wiinter Park, FL
Ivanhoe Village - Orlando, FL
And if none of these work for you, we can always have the session in your home or backyard!
